There was a very good turn-out earlier this week to meet the Leader of Cardiff Council to discuss what steps can be taken to address the increasing problems many of us have been facing since Schooner Way was closed off at the southern end.
Mariusz who organised the petition calling on the Council to address the issues has sent the following summary of the meeting – thank you to him, and to our three Councillors for their support and for joining the meeting:
A big thank you to everyone who came along this evening.
It was great to see such a strong turnout from Atlantic Wharf residents. Thank you to Cardiff Council Leader Chris Weaver, our local councillors, the Atlantic Wharf Residents’ Association and everyone who took the time to come, listen and share their experiences.
It was encouraging to hear that the frustration residents have been living with for months was acknowledged and understood.
Many residents spoke about similar meetings in the past where concerns were heard but little changed afterwards. That has understandably damaged trust.
Chris Weaver recognised that this is a significant issue that requires a solution. He committed to keeping residents regularly updated as discussions progress. We all hope this marks a different approach and that today’s meeting will lead to real action rather than another conversation.
There is still a long way to go, but this felt like a positive first step. The ball is now in the Council’s court, and we look forward to seeing those commitments turned into progress.
In the meantime, let’s keep the pressure on in a positive and constructive way. Please continue sharing the petition, talking about the issue, and helping make sure residents’ voices continue to be heard.
Our goal remains the same: a temporary access route through the County Hall site and reopening Letton Road in both directions while construction continues.
The petition remains open, so if you haven’t signed it yet, please do. Every signature helps demonstrate the strength of support for a practical solution.
