Meeting with Cardiff Council and Arena developers

It was good to see a number of neighbours at the meeting with officers from Cardiff Council and the arena developers yesterday evening.

We’ll share some fuller notes in the next few days, but in the meantime a couple of things to note, for anyone who wasn’t able to be there:

1) The main discussions were around traffic (again), and in particular the potential impact and knock-on effects of losing Hemmingway Road and blocking off Schooner Way.
Many of us have raised concerns around Hemmingway Road disappearing several times. However it also seems that the proposal to allow residents access through the County Hall car park “road” during construction hasn’t been confirmed, and while a new road to the east of the County Hall car park site is part of the new plans, that’s unlikely to happen in the short term, leaving Schooner Way a dead end.

It was agreed last night that a meeting with officers from the council’s Highways department is urgently needed, so we’ll try to get that arranged for early September. Will keep you updated.

2) Plans for the amendments to the original scheme are due to be submitted within the next week, and there will be a three-week window to submit comments.
It was noted the comments made on the original applications WILL NOT BE CARRIED FORWARD so it’s really important that if you have any comments on the new plans you do submit them, even if they duplicate what you’ve previously said.

We’ll keep an eye out for when the consultation period opens and let you know. In the meantime here’s a link to the planning portal where you can read all the original papers and comments submitted on the main planning application.
